Music Director Elisa Citterio unveiled Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra's 2020/21 season, Passions of the Soul, inviting audiences to experience the range of feelings music can inspire. For her third season, Citterio has curated a selection of music that spans more than four centuries a?" from early baroque to contemporary composers a?" with the ultimate goal of touching the heart of the listener.

One of the highlights of Tafelmusik's 2019/20 season is sure to be Bach's St John Passion, a profound work based on text from the gospel according to St John, March 26 to 29, 2020 at Koerner Hall, TELUS Centre for Performance and Learning. Ivars Taurins directs Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra and Chamber Choir, along with guest soloists Jana Miller, soprano; Krisztina Szabó, mezzo-soprano; Charles Daniels, tenor; William Sharp, baritone; and Andrew Mahon, bass-baritone. Within the Trinity-St. Paul Centre's high ceilings and warm wooden walls, audiences can experience a telling of the nativity unlike anything created today. SCH?oeTZ'S CHRISTMAS STORY, produced by The Toronto Consort, is a seasonal program centred on Schütz's works, featuring a few other German composers from his era, with his Christmas Story centred as the main event.

The Toronto Consort celebrates the magic of the holiday season with Schütz's Christmas Story, December 13 & 14 at 8pm and December 15 at 3:30pm at Trinity-St. Paul Centre. This gloriously colourful concert features the 17th-century German composer Heinrich Schütz's masterful musical telling of the Nativity story, alongside exquisite compositions by Schein, Scheidt, and Hassler. Internationally acclaimed English tenor and baroque specialist Charles Daniels returns to The Toronto Consort to perform the lead narrative role of the Evangelist, alongside conductor David Fallis, The Toronto Consort's Artistic Associates, and an ensemble of guest players and singers.

Today Music Director Elisa Citterio unveiled Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra's 2019/20 season, which highlights the freshness and vigour at the heart of everything Tafelmusik undertakes. Old meets new in unprecedented ways, including Tafelmusik's first-ever foray into the music of the late Romantic composer Tchaikovsky, a new multimedia program by Alison Mackay, the return of Vesuvius Ensemble, six world premieres by living composers, and Tafelmusik premieres of Lotti's Missa Sapientiae and of Citterio's own orchestral arrangement of Bach's Goldberg Variations. Citterio's debut Tafelmusik recording, Vivaldi con amore, will be released in September 2019, and a live recording of A Handel Celebration takes place at Koerner Hall in May 2020. In November 2019 Tafelmusik returns to Europe for the first time in a decade, with soprano Karina Gauvin, and the critically acclaimed Safe Haven multimedia program will travel across Ontario in 2020.
