Houston Grand Opera Announces its 2012-13 Season
by BWW News Desk (Jan. 27 12:05 AM) - Houston Grand Opera, with Music Director Patrick Summers and Managing Director Perryn Leech, announces its 2012-13 season, headlined by four new productions. The first of these is Puccini’s La bohème, which launches the new season with a new staging by award-winning British director John Caird. To honor 2013’s joint bicentennials of Wagner and Verdi, the coming season juxtaposes Tristan und Isolde – starring Ben Heppner and Nina Stemme in a new contemporary staging by Christof Loy – with a revival of Steven Lawless’s unforgettable take on Il trovatore. British conductor Trevor Pinnock leads a strong international cast in Mozart’s ensemble masterpiece Don Giovanni, while Francesca Zambello’s new production of Kern and Hammerstein’s Show Boat brings together stars of Broadway and the opera house in a celebration of America’s own contribution to the art. For a more intimate experience, Daniela Barcellona and Lawrence Brownlee star in Rossini’s dramma giocoso, The Italian Girl in Algiers. |

With books & lyrics by Joe DiPietro, music & lyrics by David Bryan, based on the film The Toxic Avenger by Lloyd Kaufman, and directed by John Rando, the production will run through Sunday, February 12, 2012. La Morra Debuts in U.S. with “Tears of a Lion,” 3/2
by BWW News Desk (Jan. 25 7:18 PM) - Swiss early music ensemble La Morra will visit Palmer Memorial Episcopal Church in Houston on Friday, March 2, at 7:30 p.m., as part of its first U.S. tour, which will take it to six cities across the country. The 12-year-old group will present “Lacrime di Leo (Tears of a Lion): A Secret Concert for Pope Leo X” on Houston Early Music’s season, treating audiences to little-heard gems from the early Italian Renaissance. |

Alley Theatre Announces Cast and Creative Team for Anton Chekhov's THE SEAGULL

Alley Company member James Black takes on Boris Trigorin, the writer and lover of actress Irina Arkadina, who is played by Alley favorite Jose de Guzman. Making their Alley debuts are Karl Glusman, playing Irina Arkadina’s son Konstantin Treplev, and Erica Lutz, playing Nina, his love interest. |
