Lily Tomlin Comes to Houston, 2/9

Comedienne Lily Tomlin returns to Houston for one night only, Saturday, Feb. 9, at 8 p.m. in Jones Hall, presented by Society for the Performing Arts.

Houstonians can expect an unforgettable night of fun and sidesplitting laughter when Lily Tomlin journeys back in time re-creating more than a dozen of her famous characters including Ernestine the irascible telephone operator and the devilish 6-year-old Edith Ann. This event promises to be a warm and uniquely moving experience filled with comical insights and wildly witty observations about the human condition.

Tomlin continues to venture across an ever-widening range of media, starring in television, theater, film, animation, and video. She made her television debut in 1966 on The Garry Moore Show before making several memorable appearances on The Merv Griffin Show, which led to a move to California where she appeared as a regular on Music Scene. In December 1969, Tomlin joined the cast of the top-rated Laugh-In and immediately rose to national prominence.

Over the past few years, Tomlin has made several guest appearances on "Desperate Housewives," "NCIS," "Eastbound and Down," and guest starred in the acclaimed FX series, "Damages," in the Emmy-nominated role of matriarch of a wealthy New York family accused of financial fraud. This year, Tomlin is co-starring with Reba McEntire on the new ABC series "Malibu Country," and can also be seen on Showtime's series "Web Therapy" as Lisa Kudrow's narcissistic mother. In 2012, Tomlin filmed a new movie with Tina Fey and Paul Rudd titled Admission.

Throughout her extraordinary entertainment career, she has received numerous awards, including six Emmys; two Tony Awards for her one woman Broadway shows Appearing Nitely and The Search for Signs of Intelligent Life in the Universe; an Oscar nomination for her role in the film Nashville; a Grammy for her comedy album This is a Recording; and two Peabody Awards.

Tickets range from $50-$95 and can be purchased online at www.spahouston.org, by phone at 713-227-4772 or at the courtyard level ticket office at Jones Hall located at 615 Louisiana St. Hours of operation: 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. Monday - Friday, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Saturday. For groups of 15 or more call 713-632-8113.
