Gexa Energy Broadway At The Hobby Center Announces 2013-2014 Season

The Gexa Energy Broadway at the Hobby Center 2013-2014 season, announced today, brings some of Broadway's biggest hits to Houston.

The sensational season kicks off with THE BOOK OF MORMON, the multi-Tony Award winning musical from the creators of South Park.

The season continues with the swashbuckling musical play prequel to Peter Pan PETER AND THE STARCATCHER, the razzle-dazzle fan favorite CHICAGO, the musical tale of everlasting love GHOST, and the Tony Award-winning Best Play that TIME Magazine calls "A Landmark Theater Event," War Horse.

"Our new season features the best of Broadway today," Fran Macferran, president of the Hobby Center Foundation, said. "Collectively, these shows have won 25 Tony Awards, not to mention an enormous amount of praise from both critics and audiences alike."

Shows in the 2013-2014 Gexa Energy Broadway at the Hobby Center series include:

THE BOOK OF MORMON

September 3 - 15, 2013

Winner of nine Tony Awards including Best Musical, THE BOOK OF MORMON features book, music and lyrics by Trey Parker, Robert Lopez and Matt Stone. Parker and Stone are the four-time Emmy Award-winning creators of the landmark animated series, "South Park." Tony Award-winner Lopez is co-creator of the long-running hit musical comedy, AVENUE Q. The musical is choreographed by Tony Award-winner Casey Nicholaw (MONTY PYTHON'S SPAMALOT, THE DROWSY CHAPERONE) and is directed by Nicholaw and Parker. THE BOOK OF MORMON contains explicit language. The Original Broadway Cast Recording for THE BOOK OF MORMON, winner of the 2011 GRAMMY Award for Best Musical Theater Album, is available on Ghostlight Records. www.BookofMormonTheMusical.com

PETER AND THE STARCATCHER

October 15 - 20, 2013

PETER AND THE STARCATCHER, the most magical evening of madcap fun is now on tour! Hailed by The New York Times as "the most exhilarating storytelling on Broadway in decades," this musical play takes a hilarious romp through the Neverland you never knew. The winner of five Tony Awards, this swashbuckling prequel to Peter Pan will have you hooked from the moment you let your imagination take flight. PETER AND THE STARCATCHER is the innovative and imaginative musical play based on the best-selling Disney-Hyperion novel by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson. A company of twelve actors plays more than a hundred unforgettable characters, all on a journey to answer the century-old question: How did Peter Pan become The Boy Who Never Grew Up? This epic origin story of popular culture's most enduring and beloved character proves that your imagination is the most captivating place in the world. Entertainment Weekly calls PETER AND THE STARCATCHER, "an absurdly funny fantastical journey."

CHICAGO

November 12 - 17, 2013

A true New York City institution, CHICAGO has everything that makes Broadway great: a universal tale of fame, fortune and all that jazz; one show-stopping-song after another; and the most astonishing dancing you've ever seen. It's no wonder CHICAGO has been honored with six Tony Awards, two Olivier Awards, a GRAMMY and thousands of standing ovations. It's also no surprise that CHICAGO has wowed audiences all around the world, from Mexico City to Moscow, from Sao Paulo to South Africa. Whether you're looking for your first Broadway musical, whether you've seen the Academy Award-winning film and want to experience the show live on stage, or whether you've seen it before and want to recapture the magic, CHICAGO always delivers.

GHOST

February 18 - 23, 2014

GHOST THE MUSICAL is "unlike anything seen on stage before!" - Newsday

Relive the iconic and magical moments from the Oscar-winning movie GHOST in a brand-new Broadway musical. GHOST THE MUSICAL breathes glorious new life into a timeless love story. The musical features an original pop score from multiple GRAMMY Award-winners Dave Stewart, one half of the 80s pop duo the Eurythmics, and Glen Ballard, co-writer with Alanis Morissette on the multi-platinum album Jagged Little Pill, among many other notable credits and collaborations. The musical's tale of everlasting love is thrilling entertainment for audiences of all ages. Adapted from the hit film by its Academy Award-winning screenwriter Bruce Joel Rubin, GHOST THE MUSICAL follows Sam and Molly, a young couple whose connection takes a shocking turn after Sam's untimely death. Trapped between two worlds, Sam refuses to leave Molly when he learns she is in grave danger. Desperate to communicate with her, he turns to a storefront psychic who helps him protect Molly and avenge his death.
